It is with regret and sadness that we have been forced to close our doors at the Out There Adventure Centre.
In short, we are unable to survive in the current economy in downtown Calgary. Though our suppliers have been supportive these last months, we were ultimately unable to renegotiate a rental rate with our landlord that reflected the current retail reality.
In the end, despite our efforts to weather this historic economic downturn, we are done.
Promoting the active outdoor lifestyle in Calgary was not only our mission—it has been a pleasure. And it’s been an honour to offer the great gear we curated to thousands of Out There Adventure Centre customers including you. Thank you for shopping with us.
It has also been a real treat to work with the wonderful staff who turned the lights on 364 days a year for 14 years. They warmed up the space with their knowledge of gear and deep passion for getting outside.
We’d like to thank Tyler Kosaka in particular—store manager and friend. If you had the pleasure of his service, you know him to be a genius at times with his gear knowledge. He could fit a shoe on any foot and a pack on any back. Tyler remembered people’s names, and their stories. And nothing made him happier than to see a customer well taken care of. He was the heart of the Out There Adventure Centre. Tyler opened the store with us and worked passionately at Out There to its last day. Remarkable.
The bricks and mortar of the Out There Adventure Centre are no more. But we will not relent on our mission to Get The World Outside. Once we recover from this major setback, our focus will turn fully to ecommerce and the launch of our branded product this fall on www.LiveOutThere.com.
We hope to see you there.
Thank you again for your support over the years.
Now, get out there!
