Meet the Team
Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Tyler has spent most of his life playing in the Rockies. Celebrating 13 years at Out There, Tyler is the General Store Manager and you will often find him roaming the floors in search of great outdoor conversation. Tyler’s three season passions revolve around most things 2 wheeled and aerobic in nature. Epic helmet head are Tyler’s daily fashion statement. Long winters are often spent exploring the ski hills, looking for the next steep and deep challenge, both alpine and back country. This summer’s goal is to squeeze in a selfish mountain bike packing trip and introducing some longer backpacking to his 10 year old daughter.
Purchasing ManagerAshley joined the Out There team in March of 2014 as the Purchasing Manager. Originally from London Ontario, she moved west 7 years ago in search of more vertical terrain. Strapping on her first tightly fitted pair of climbing shoes in Canmore was all it took to solidify the love of climbing that dominates the majority of her free time. This obsession has quickly spread to include any activity that can be done on or around the Rockies with a soft spot for backpacking, hiking, snow-sports (of any kind) and mountain biking. Ashley plans to take her love of all things outdoors on the road to gain experience in the best of what the world has to offer and has recently returned from a backpacking trip in Alaska’s Denali National Park.
SupervisorYusuke was born and raised in Hokkaido, Japan. He has lived in Canada for the last 8 years. Climbing and skiing are Yusuke’s favourite activities but he has been known to dabble in trail running, mountain biking and scrambling and you will find him hanging around in the local climbing gyms when he is not at work. He became a member of Out There team in September of 2012 and has used his opportunities here to help in his search for new gear to test outside!
Dave, originally from the UK, has been in Canada for just over a year and has been part of the Out There Team for the whole duration. His favourite activities include trail running, mountain biking, climbing, scrambling and generally being outside in the mountains; in the winter skiing is his main passion. In addition to his obsession with outdoor activities, Dave has a nerdy interest in outdoor gear and technology and is always willing to engage with anyone on gear related discussions. Dave’s favourite places include all the trails in West Bragg Creek, Kananaskis, Banff and the Spray Valley, but he is determined to explore further afield into Kootenay, Jasper, and Yoho.
Team MemberSpencer has recently joined the full time Out There team and has called Calgary his home for his entire life. Spencer lists his interests as hiking, climbing, backpacking and travelling; he recently spent a year travelling in New Zealand where he experienced some of the great walks available including the Kepler track which he lists as his favourite. Closer to home, Spencer’s favourite hiking trails are around Three Isle Lake and South Kananaskis pass. Outside of his outdoor interests he also has a passion for music and has played guitar for fifteen years.
Born in Ontario and raised in Calgary, Anna’s interests in many outdoor activities make her right at home at Out There. With plenty of hiking, swimming, triathlons, and cross country skiing under her belt, Anna has recently added ski touring and trail running to her quiver. Her interests have taken her on many adventures to beautiful places, with standouts including the West Highland Way in Scotland and Trolltunga in Norway. More locally her favourite summit is Mt Temple. Outdoor interests aside, Anna has completed her studies in linguistics and loves to bring up random language facts whenever the opportunity arises.
Mark hails from Calgary, born and raised, and has called the city home for the entirety of his life. He enjoys exploring Calgary’s surrounding area and regularly hikes, scrambles, climbs, mountain bikes and skis, seasons permitting, and is keen to try out new activities. Mount Temple, Rawson Lake, Grassi Lakes and the trails in the Lake Louise area are some of Mark’s favourite destinations. Mark studied geology and as such you will find him often examining the ground in front rather than the magnificent views!
Trevor has recently moved to Calgary after leading an adventurous life that included hitchhiking around the world, travelling more than 50,000 km. Locally, Trevor is keen to explore and hike around the local area, developing his knowledge and experience as he travels. For someone who has been around the world, narrowing down his favourite places and countries is hard. Aside from Canada, countries that are at the top of Trevor’s list are Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia and Japan.
Hailing from Brandon Manitoba, Josh has called Calgary home for the past 8 years with his wife and dog Bogey. Along with his time spent at Out There, Josh keeps busy with architecture classes, mountain biking in West Bragg, hiking, snowshoeing and camping throughout the Canadian Rockies! Josh also introduced himself to cold climate mountaineering in the reaches of Antarctica while working as an aircraft mechanic on the planet’s southernmost continent.
Jess now resides in Calgary but is originally from Innisfail, AB. Jess leads a busy life and manages to fit in her time at Out There between her studies at U of C and competing in Whitewater Kayaking internationally as part of Team Canada. When she does have time off she enjoys the accessibility of the Kananaskis area where she can ski tour, climb, hike and of course: paddle. Additional faves include chocolate, and researching new designs for a future home #vanlife!

Backpacking, hiking and canoeing are Caitlin’s favourite activities but she has recently developed a newfound love for rock climbing. A veteran of backpacking adventure, the longest of which was 18 days, Caitlin has spent her summers passing on her experience by leading summer camp backpacking trips.
Team MemberThe newest member of the Out There team, Allen has worked with us for only a couple of weeks! Originating from deep within the Canadian Rockies, Allen enjoys great summer foraging in the grasslands, but tends to get sleepy during the long winter months. Allen also has an unexplained affinity for Marmot clothing and gear and can often be found perched in hidden corners and alcoves within the shop. Notoriously shy and quiet, Allen’s various hiding spots can only be spotted by the keen observer!
